How to Solve the Problem of Heavy Traffic
With the development of industry and economy, more people from rural area are pouring into big cities and more vehicles are going on to the street. As a result, many cities are faced with the serious problem of traffic congestion, which has become one of the major concerns of the society.
To solve this problem, many people have put forward many solutions, of which the following two are the most typical. One is to lay down more roads, which will make the highways less crowded and accelerate the flowof traffic. Another is to open up more bus routes, which will enable more people to take buses rather than ride bikes or drive cars, thus decreasing the number of cars and bikes racing on the streets.

This graph shows the rise and fall of the rate of car accidents in Wa[ton City in different months in 1990. We can see that the first three months saw an increase. There are several reasons for the decline of the car accidents in this city. Nowadays, when a person is hunting for a job, there are almost always job interviews. I think a job interview is beneficial to both the interviewer and the interviewee.

Most important of all, a job interview is agood chance for the interviewee, because, he can impress the interviewer by good behavior. He can show his educational background, his ability and his confidence. Then the interviewer can figure out whether he is the right person for the job.
In a word, I think the interview will do good to both the interviewer and the interviewee. By the interview, the interviewee can find a suitable job and the interviewer can find a suitable person if both of them make the best of the job interview.

Global Shortage of Fresh Water
There is fresh water in rain, in rivers and wells. This fact leads us to think that fresh water is everywhere and it will never be used up in the world. But the fact is that such a belief is unfortunately wrong and possibly dangerous.
We know that despite the fact that seventy percent of the earth's surface is covered with water, only a little part of it is fresh water. Yet the demand for fresh water in our daily life and in industry seems great. Moreover, with the expansion of the population and development of industry, the amount of the fresh water needed will increase even rapidly. It is estimated that if such a trend continues, the fresh water on earth will be exhausted very soon. What is worse, more and more water resources are being polluted, making the water unfit to use.

Practice Makes Perfect
The well known proverb "Practice makes perfect." means that when we set about a difficult task or begin to learn something new, we need to practice constantly. Getting familiar with something is merely the first step. Only through constant practice can we get to know how each parts are related and only in this way can we become skilled in doing the work and in the end have a better command of it.
Many examples can be cited to illustrate this fact. Learning to write English composition is a good case in point. Many students complain that writing in English is really a great problem for them. But do you notice how often they practiced writing English compositions in their daily life? If they fail to follow what the proverb says, if they don't write regularly in English, how can they expect to improve their writing?
Let's take playing piano as another example. Many want to be famous pianists, but few know the road to success. How can oneplay the piano wonderfully if he only practices it once inawhile. The road to success is filled with hard work. Only when one persists in practicing hour after hour, day after day can he get to the peak of success.

Dear Miss Austin,
Your letter made me happy. I did not expect such a full return. for the interview. You must arrive in plenty of time for the interview,so that you give yourself a little
time to relax before the interview begins.
The impression you make as you walk into the room is very important. Try to find out if the
company or organization has rules about dress. Then try to dress according to their regulations.
You also need to plan what you are going to say. In some interviews you will have to do a lot of talking, and in others you will only have to answer a few questions about your education and experience. You need to have answers ready about yourself, your schoolwork, your strong points, your reasons for applying for the job, and the salary you expect.
You will also be allowed to ask some questions of your own. The questions you ask will show the interviewer that you have given careful thought to the position. You can ask questions like these. What duties will I have to do in the job? Will I be allowed to join a health insurance program? Does the company provide opportunities for further education?

Summer Job
The summer job is a tradition among students of American universities. Long before the end of the school year,students begin their search for jobs during vacation ( June, July, and August).
Students send letters to businesses, talk to employers about job opportunities durlng the summer, and ask friends and relarives to be on the lookout for jobs for them. By June the students have usually
solved the problem and begin to make preparations for leaving their books to enter the business world.
Reasons for wanting a summer job are different from student to student. Some work to help pay their school expenses; others work to gain experience in their chosen professions; still others work just for the fun of it.
Typist, construction worker, salesman, lifeguard, and waiter these are some of the more common jobs that students try to find during the summer months. But many young people find work that is a little more unusual.

Yet just as Americans choose to attend American universities in spite of the difficulty, it is usually possible for students from abroad to work on university campuses to pay for some of the cost of their education. pie believe that students ＆#118alue their education more if they work for it.

Language Pollution
Dear Editor,
You can find language pollution whenever you open a newspaper, turn on your TV set,or listen to a radio. Language pollution exists almost everywhere and usually can be seen in the following places:
1. Chinese characters are written in the complex form. Although simplified Chinese characters were accepted for use years ago, it seems that more and more peopie like Chinese characters written in the complex form.
2. Many goods are produced in China but carry foreign names, which sound strange and have no meaning at all.
3. Words and expressions being used have a bad meaning. "Ba", which means bully in Chinese, is one example.Now there are a lot of goods, restaurants even factories or films, with "Ba" in their names.
4. There are too many incorrect grammatical expressions. Some TV play series have strange names and incorrect grammatical structures. "Ai ni mei shang liang", which means "1 love you without consulting", is grammatically incorrect and this kind of expression is now becoming popular.
Some language experts point out that language pollution must be done away with, which is an idea shared by myself and many others.

Learning Foreign Languages
In schools all over the world boys and girls are learning foreign languages. Many adults are
doing so in their spare time. Everybody knows his own language, but to know another is very useful.
Which is the best way to learn a language? We should remember we all learnt our own language well when we were children. If we could learn a second language in the same way, it would not seem so difficult. Think what a small child does. It listens to what people say and tries to imitate what it
hears. When it wants something, it has to ask for it. It is using the language. It is talking and thinking in it all the time. If one has to use a second language all the time, he would learn it quickly.
It is important to remember, also, that we learn our own language by hearing people speaking it not by seeing what they write. We imitate what we hear. In school, though you learn to read and write as well as to hear and speak, it is best to learn all new words through the ear. Of course you also learn to read them, spell them and write them.
