Protect Panda
The giant panda is known as the national treasure of China. The panda was a kind of ordinary animal in China long ago. However, for some reasons, too many of them have been killed. So the number of them is falling quickly.
At present people are taking an important measure to save pandas. People want to find a home for them, and recently, they have set up a nature park for them in Sichuan Province,which is called "Pandas' Home. "There pandas can enjoy their life happily. There is a bamboo forest near the Pandas' Home. So the pandas can find bamboos easily which they like to eat very much.
Because pandas are well protected now, the number of them is increasing every year. We hope that one day we will have enough pandas to set them free and let them live in the wild again.
Pandas are good friends of man. Man should try to protect them and ]et them live in the way they like!

保护大熊猫
大熊猫被称为中国的“国宝”。很久以前，大熊猫是中国的一种很普通的动物。然而，由于种种原因，熊猫大量地死亡，所以它们的数量也急剧下降。

Dear editor,
Recently, our class have had a heated discussion about whether the Beijing Zoo should be moved out of the city. Someof my classmates are in favour of the move. They say large crowds of tourists to the zoo will result in traffic jams. They also say that once moved ,animals will have more space and better living conditions in the suburbs.
However, other students are against the idea, saying that the Beijing Zoo, built in 1906, has a history of 100 years, and is well-known at home and abroad. So it should remain where it is.
What's more, moving may cause the death of some animals.
To move or not, this is a big decision which has to be made by people in Beijing.

Should students make friends on line?
Some people say yes. The Intemet helps students make many friends. Chatting on line, students can express their feelings and opinions more freely, and even get help with their foreign language studies.
Others, however, think students should not make friends on line.They say it is a waste of time. Besides, some students get cheated on line.
It is my opinion that students should place their study, health and safety before other things. As for friendship, we can readily find it in our classmates and other people around us.

Smoking and Health
We meet smokers everywhere. There are 6.5 billion people in the world, and about 1.2 billion of them are smokers, which make up to 20 percent of the world's total population.
Smoking is very harmful. First, smoking costs a great deal of money. It wastes 200 billion dollars each year in the world. Second,smoking does harm to the health of smokers and even the people near them. About 3 million people die of diseases caused by smoking every year.
Luckily, more and more people have come to realize the great harm of smoking. To our delight the total amount of world tobacco production has dropped from over 14 billion pounds in 2000 to 7 billion pounds in 2003. It is certain that the number of smokers will further decrease gradually.

Accompany Us Studying
Dear editor,
I'm writing to tell you about the discussion we recently had about whether our parents should accompany us studying at school.
We do have different opinions on this matter. Most of us (about 70% )think our parents should not accompany us studying at school since it make us fall into the habit of dependence, so that we won't form the good habit of studying. What's more, it is harmful for us to form the habit of controlling ourselves. At the same time it affects our parents' work, studies and rest.
While about 30% of my classmates think it necessary for our parents to accompany us studying at school. Accompanying us studying at school can let us have more time to study. Besides, we shall be
more healthy with their care. On the other hand our parents can help us set up our aim, urge us to finish our task, encourage us to overcome difficulties and get us into the good habit of studying.

Hope School
Thanks to the Hope Project r, great changes have taken place in a country school,
This school used to be called Lijiazhuang School. Most of its pupils left school because their families were too poor to pay for their education. The only unsafe schoolhouse had to be used as classrooms.And all the teachers shared one room. The playground was nothing but an open land.
Things are different now. All the children who left school have come to continue their studies. In the schoolyard stands a two-storeyed teaching building. There are rooms for music, art and com-
puter teaching. The school is well equipped with sports goods.
The Project benefits the school a great deal. For this reason, it was renamed Hope School.

Early Rising
Early rising benefits us in many ways.
First, it helps to keep us fit. We all need fresh air. Besides, by taking morning exercises we can improve our health.
Second, it can help us in our studies. In the morning we can learn more quickly.
Third, it can enable us to plan our work for the day. We cannot work well without a proper plan. Early rising can also give us enough time to get ready for our work.
So we say that those who always get up late should make great effort to get up early.

Saving Our City
It is important to deal with the rubbish in cities. Rubbish must be treated properly. Otherwise it may cause a lot of problems. It may pollute the air and water. When people breathe the polluted air or drink the polluted water, they may get iii.
Our city has begun to pay attention to the problem. As far as I know, some rubbish is sorted and sent to different factories. Rubbish,such as old newspapers and glass, is recycled.
Some harmful rubbish is sent to a certain place and buried.Waste air is cleaned before it goes into the air. Waste water is treated before it is poured into rivers。
To protect the environment, the government has passed laws to prevent people from throwing rubbish everywhere. We should do our best to take good care of the environment and fight against pollution.

Today we visited Red Star Farm.
Early in the morning, we met at the school gate and went there together. About two hours later, we arrived. On arriving there, we were given a warm welcome by the farm workers. Then one of the workers showed us around the farm. We were very glad to see the crops and vegetables growing so well. At noon, we had a picnic happily.
After the picnic, we enjoyed ourselves in the sunshine. We listened to music, dancing and singing. Some were talking happily and even two of our classmates played chess. How time flies! It was time for us to leave though we didn't want to. It was really an unforgettable visit for us.

An Opening Ceremony

Today our school had an opening ceremony in the school auditorium. All the teachers and students as well as some famous scientists and government officials attended. Our principal made a speech. He hoped everybody in our school would work harder and make even more progress in the new term. "Three-good-deed" students were rewarded with prizes. Principal also announced that some honour students received Zhou Peiyuan scholarships because they had won medals in various competitions. A famous scientist then made a speech.He told the students about his learning experience and how he achieve success in his research work. I was so moved by what he said.

Fly the Kite

This morning, after finishing all my homework, I went to the People's Park together with my classmate Mary to fly a kite. We got a very nice kite, and it was such a lovely day. So we were sure to have a lot of fun.
I began to fly the kite. Once it went up into the sky, I began to run very fast, and hoped that it would go higher and higher. Then suddenly I felt something wrong. Looking up into the sky, I was disappointed to find that the kite had got broken. In no time the broken kite and rope fell over me. What a fool! I sat on the grass, feeling rather ashamed of what I had done.
Then Mary comforted me, saying, "Now, you know what makes a kite fly high. It's patience and skills. "Yes, I've learned a good lesson today.

放风筝

今天早晨，我做完作业后和同学玛丽一块到人民公园里去放风筝。我们买到一只非常漂亮的风筝。天气那么好，我们决定玩个痛快。
我开始放风筝了。它一飞上天空我就开始飞快地跟着跑，希望它飞得越来越高。突然我发现有些不对劲，我抬头望天空，却失望地发现风筝断了。风筝和线立刻跌落在我的面前。我真笨!我坐．在草丛里，非常羞愧。
玛丽走过来安慰我道：“现在你明白了怎样才能让风筝飞得更高了，它需要耐心和技巧。”是的，今天我就好好地给自己上了一堂课。

APE Lesson
May 28th Monday Cloudy
This afternoon we had a PE lesson. Our teacher taught us to practise the long jump. When the bell rang, we gathered on the playground. After warming-up exercises, the teacher told us the way of long jump and showed us how to do it. Then we followed the teacher and practised one after another. Soon came my turn, but I felt a hit nervous. Though I failed the first time, yet I didn't lose my heart. I kept on practising. At last I was able to jump over 3 meters.
From this lesson I came to see that one will succeed if he has perseverance.

The sports meeting which was to take place this Saturday has to be put off because of the heavy rairi these days. The Bus Has Broken down
It was snowing heavily on Monday morning. Li Hua was at the bus stop, waiting for Bus No.601 to go to school. After a while, a bus came and she got on it. There were many passengers in the bus.Some were talking and some were looking out of the windows. Suddenly the bus stopped. The driver turned around and said, "Sorry. The bus has broken down. Please get off and help push the bus."When they heard this, Li Hua and the other passengers got off the bus.They worked hard together, pushing the bus slowly forward. Soon the bus was running again. All the passengers were smiling and the sun was shining.

Health
A recent survey shows that the health of the students in our school has been going from bad to worse in the past three years. The number of short-sighted students has increased from 78.2% in 2002 to 92.5% this year,while that of overweight students from 36% to 52.4%. Nearly 10% more students don't have enough sleep because of more homework. Besides, over 15% more students become mentally unhealthy.
To improve students'health, we call for less homework. Only in this way can students get plenty of sleep and be more healthy. Proper diets and exercise should also be paid attention to so that they won't easily put on weight. With their heavy burdens removed, students can then keep in normal mental health.
